Force of Habit is the fifth studio album by the US thrash metal band Exodus . It was released on Capitol Records in August 1992 and is the last album before the band broke up. It is the only album with bassist Michael Butler and contains the single "Thorn in My Side".
Origin and style
In the times of Groove Metal , Exodus on Force of Habit went to work much slower and more mid-tempo-oriented than before, pure Thrash Metal was pushed back. The band first recorded in Great Britain , where Chris Tsangarides produced the record. Only “Pump It Up” was then provided with additional recording tracks and remixed by Marc Senesac in The Record Plant studio in Sausalito . With "Bitch" by the Rolling Stones - with brass arrangements - and "Pump It Up" by Elvis Costello two cover versions were included. The song titles are mostly English language proverbs. “Architect of Pain” refers to the Marquis de Sade , “One Foot in the Grave” criticizes drug abuse and “Me, Myself and I” satirically deals with the I generation.
Force of Habit is the only album without the familiar Exodus logo. The cover features an illustration by Ralph Steadman . The album is dedicated to Bill Graham , who died in 1991 .
reception
Roch Parisien from Allmusic awarded three out of five stars. The partial departure from Thrash leaves room for some melodies. Parisien highlighted the unusual cover versions as well as some "interesting text content". Force of Habit could not place itself in the charts.
