Dick Shawn (born December 1, 1923 in Buffalo , New York , † April 17, 1987 in San Diego , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Shawn had its Broadway premiere in 1948 . The play, in which he gave a supporting role, was canceled after seven performances. He then worked as a stand-up comedian . In 1954 he had his first television appearances and two years later he was seen alongside Joan Collins in a minor supporting role in the comedy The weak sex . In 1960 he received a film contract with 20th Century Fox and then worked in a number of successful feature films. In 1963 he played Sylvester Marcus in the star-studded comedy A Totally, Totally Crazy World , in 1966 he was Igor Valkleinokov in the Jerry Lewis comedy The Moon Calf and in 1968 he was the hippie called LSD in Mel Brooks ' Spring for Hitler . He was also seen in numerous Broadway productions in the 1960s.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Shawn was rarely seen in major film productions to the exceptions listed by George Harrison produced comedy water - the film and in 3D turned science fiction - short film Captain EO with Michael Jackson . However, he has appeared as a guest on numerous television series such as Fantasy Island , Magnum and A Colt just in case .

Shawn had been married to Rita Bachner since 1946. The marriage had four children. In 1987 he died of a heart attack while performing on stage in San Diego .
