List of train stations in Austria |
The Tulln railway station is a junction station in the town of Tulln District Tulln. This is where the Tullnerfelder Bahn , built in 1885, branches off from the Franz Josefs Bahn built in 1870 . With a daily passenger volume of 8,000 people, the station is one of the most important stations in central Lower Austria. In addition to the dense passenger traffic with REX and S-Bahn trains to Vienna as well as REX and S-Bahn connections to Tullnerfeld and Waldviertel, freight traffic is still of great importance, especially during the sugar beet season between September and January, as there is one in the train station The connecting line to the Tulln sugar factory branches off.
history
The station was opened in 1870 in the course of the opening of the Eggenburg – Vienna FJBf section of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn. 15 years later the Tullnerfelder Bahn was opened between Tulln and St. Pölten Hauptbahnhof . In 1890, the painter Egon Schiele was born in the train station , whose father was station director at the time. From 1899, some of the trains on the Vienna Steam Light Rail , which had opened the year before, also ran to Tulln; this connection was discontinued when the Vienna Electric Light Rail began operating in 1925.
From June 1, 1965, an hourly S-Bahn service was set up for the first time between Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof and Tulln, with trains soon being canceled. In 1975 the traffic to Vienna was synchronized again and from 1978 the line to Tulln was electrified. In 1979 the Franz-Josefs-Bahn was electrified to Absdorf-Hippersdorf and in 1981 the Tullnerfelder Bahn.
From 2017 to 2019 the listed station was rebuilt and the number of platforms is to be increased from three to four barrier-free platforms. The converted station was officially opened on October 19, 2018.
Investments
The train station has a heated waiting room with an integrated counter. Until the renovation, which began in 2017, the station had three platforms, of which the two tracks on the central platform could only be reached via stairs through the underpass . After the station renovation, two barrier-free central platforms should be available (similar to the Absdorf-Hippersdorf station ).
In addition to the platform tracks, there are several tracks for freight traffic and for parking the S-Bahn trains that end in Tulln.
To the south of the station building there is a multi-storey car park with parking spaces for cars and bicycles and a bus stop.
links
Due to the overlapping of the Waldviertel and Kremser trains, there are half-hourly REX connections between Tulln and Vienna between 5:00 and 19:00 during the day, then every hour with the departure at minute 32 until 22:32 with an additional train at 21:01. The REX trains from Vienna FJBf run between Vienna and Tulln every half hour from 6:04 am to 11:04 pm, followed by another train at 00:04 am. These trains run from Absdorf-Hippersdorf alternately to Krems an der Donau or Sigmundsherberg / Gmünd, with the last two trains going to Krems.
On the Schnellbahn line, there are half-hourly connections (with changes in frequency) between Vienna and Tulln between 5:00 and 24:00, in the opposite direction between 4:00 and 23:30. With a few exceptions, these trains stop at all stations between Vienna and Tulln and are extended every hour on weekdays and every two hours on weekends via the Tullnerfelderbahn to St. Pölten Hbf.
The timetables of the trains running in Tulln are designed in such a way that there is a lean transition between REX trains and the S-Bahn at Tulln station.
