List of train stations in Austria |
The Eggenburg station is a through station in the town of Eggenburg at the Franz-Josefs-Bahn . The station is one of the most frequented in the Waldviertel on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn due to the central location of the city of Eggenburg in the eastern Waldviertel and its proximity to the Weinviertel. Eggenburg is served every half hour during peak times, otherwise by hourly REX trains Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof - Sigmundsherberg / Gmünd NÖ . It is the only station next to the Sigmundsherberg station where all trains stop that run between Tulln and Sigmundsherberg. Commuters to Vienna make up a large proportion of the station's users.
history
The station was built in the course of the construction of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn between Eggenburg and Gmünd in the 1860s and opened in 1869. The following year the Eggenburg – Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof section was completed .
The station has been the express stop for trains Vienna – Prague / Berlin / Hamburg since the opening of the line. The downgrading of the station to a local traffic stop only took place with the relocation of long-distance trains to the northern line in the 1990s.
In 1985 the Franz-Josefs-Bahn between Absdorf-Hippersdorf and Sigmundsherberg was electrified. In 1994, as part of the modernization of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, which included electrification as far as Gmünd, the station was rebuilt and equipped with raised platforms.
Investments
The station has a heated waiting room with seating and a men's and women's toilet. A switch is integrated in the waiting room.
The station has three main platforms. The house platform ( platform 1) is connected to the island platform ( platform 2 and 3) by an underpass . Most trains stop at platform 3, platform 2 is required for any train crossings in the afternoon or in the event of delays. Although this underpass does not have a passenger lift, it is possible to cross the tracks east of the platform via a level crossing. To do this, however , the local dispatcher has to open a gate in the fence that separates the tracks from platforms 1 and 2.
To the north of the train station there is a bus stop and a park-and-ride facility, and to the south there is also a parking space for cars. The two parking spaces have a capacity of 255 cars.
