Hugo Gottschlich

Hugo Gottschlich (born October 30, 1905 in Vienna ; † March 22, 1984 ibid) was an Austrian chamber actor .

Life

After studying at the Vienna Conservatory, Gottschlich made his debut in Zurich in 1927 . In Vienna he first played on various cabaret stages. His other stations were the Theater in der Josefstadt and the Volkstheater , before Gottschlich finally became a member of the Vienna Burgtheater ensemble from 1955 . There he was seen mainly in comic roles, a Nestroy play without Gottschlich was simply unthinkable.

He made his feature film debut in 1940 in the film Donauschiffer , at the side of Attila Hörbiger , a year earlier Gottschlich had already made his acquaintance with the screen in the short film A Bomb Shop . Until 1972 he played in countless films, works like Der Postmeister with Heinrich George , Es strikes 13 with Hans Moser and Theo Lingen , April 1, 2000 , Pünktchen and Anton , Shake hands with me, my life with Oskar Werner , Hello Taxi , Mariandl and Der Weibsteufel . Shortly before his death he had his last role in the Xaver Schwarzenberger TV production Donauwalzer with Christiane Hörbiger .

Gottschlich was also often seen on television, especially in the relevant crime series. His appearance as Alfred P. Doolittle in the musical My Fair Lady (with Josef Meinrad as Henry Higgins ) at the Theater an der Wien remains unforgettable .

His honorary grave is located at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 122).
