The film focuses on the practice of abortion in West German society . The film caused a scandal in German film history in connection with the reform debate about the criminal liability of abortion . According to the version of Section 218 of the Criminal Code at the time, “a woman who kills her womb or allows someone else to kill her” was punished with imprisonment for up to five years.
The premiere took place on September 2, 1971 in Berlin . The performance on June 6, 1971 was the cover story We drifted! preceded in the magazine Stern .
