Catherine Ringer, 2007

Catherine Ringer (born October 18, 1957 in the Paris suburb of Suresnes ) is a French porn actress , actress , dancer and became known as the singer-songwriter of the progressive rock and ( avant-garde ) pop duo Les Rita Mitsouko .

Childhood and youth

Catherine grew up with her brother in a creative environment and discovered her interest in music at an early age and played a flute as her first instrument. She is said to have sung songs by Georges Brassens , Maria Callas and Velvet Underground “with a very loud voice” with passion and talent . Her father Samuel Ringer is a painter, her mother Jeanine an architect.

Catherine left the “Collège Honoré de Balzac ” at the age of 15 and fulfilled her wish to turn her talent and artistic passion as an actress (and comedian), dancer and singer into a profession.

Artistic career

Catherine Ringer

In Michael Lonsdale's “Théâtre de Recherche Musicale” she received her first engagement for a piece called “Fragments pour le Che” by Pierre Bourgeade.

At the same time, Catherine Ringer met the Argentine dancer and choreographer Marcia Moretto , who became her teacher and artistic partner. They appeared together in 1976 in “Silences Nocturnes aux îles des fées” by Armando Llamas in the “Café de la Gare” and in 1977 in the theater “Le Palace” on the occasion of the festival “Trans-Théâtres”.

Before Catherine Ringer met Frédéric "Fred" Chichin, she gained artistic experience in plays by Bertolt Brecht in December 1977, in "N'Shima" directed by the composer Iannis Xenakis and in an African ballet. She also appeared in porn films .

The paths of Ringer and Chichin crossed for the first time in the spring of 1979 at the music revue "Flashes rouges" in Montreuil (Paris) and became a couple. They have three children together.

At that time Chichin was playing guitar for the group "Le fond de l'air est rock" in the theater / music project "Flashes rouges" by Marc'O , Ringer had a role as a "victim".

In addition to other activities (film / TV / music), Ringer worked on the animated film "Les Boulugres" by Jean Hurtado for France 3 , together with Michael Lonsdale and Daniel Berlioux , and on the feature film "Le temps des Yeyes" by Gérard Jourd'hui .

Together with Frédéric Chichin , Catherine Ringer formed the progressive rock and ( avant-garde ) pop duo Les Rita Mitsouko from 1980 until Chichin's death in November 2007 .

Between 1976 and 1982 Catherine Ringer took part in around twenty porn films. Her main motivation was to make enough money to start a rock band. You saw them in French, but also in German and Italian productions. She also posed for the Danish magazine Sex Bizarre of Color Climax and for the Swedish magazine Pirate . She operated under her real name or under the pseudonyms Lolita da Nova or Betty Davis . In the spring of 1986 the general public discovered her past in adult films, previously known only to porn lovers: while she was starring with Les Rita Mitsouko, her old hard films were reissued on VHS, which were sold under the name "Mitsouko", sometimes even as "Rita Mitsouko". Faced with this use of her group's name, Catherine Ringer filed a complaint, but was dismissed by the courts, allowing publishers to sell their tapes thanks to a new advertising campaign centered around the "Rita Mitsouko scandal". The affair caused quite a stir in the French media, but the musical career did not suffer.

Catherine Ringer has returned to these experiences several times, which she has never denied. Shortly after the VHS affair, she was insulted on the set of the program Mon Zénith à moi by Serge Gainsbourg , who called her a "whore" for making pornographic films. She replies that she lived "the modern adventure", he replies that "the modern adventure is not disgusting", she attacks him by saying that he has become "the disgusting guy". The sequence was commented on by Pierre Desproges , who in defense of Catherine Ringer said of Serge Gainsbourg: "I loved him very much while he was alive". In 1986, in the program Sexy Folies presented by Mireille Dumas , she relates that her experience with porn consisted of "violent, difficult situations in which her personal image was completely shattered, reduced to nothing. She compares the shooting of porn to a form of" Military service ". To Christian Eudeline in VSD, she says:" I was surrounded by people who were a bit intellectual and said that it would be something artistic, that it would be exciting .... "I did that under the influence".
