Frederic "Fred" Chichin (* 1. June 1954 in Clichy ; † 28. November 2007 ) was a French rock musician and singer-songwriter , who with the avant-garde - Pop duo Les Rita Mitsouko became known.

biography

He owes his parents Madeleine and Jean-Lois Chichin his Italian and Scandinavian roots from the Auvergne . His father was a fan of the Nouvelle Vague and founder of the magazine Miroir du cinéma . He took his son to many Nouvelle Vague previews, but he was more interested in old westerns from Hollywood productions. He was also captivated by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones .

At 14, Chichin was playing the drums and the accordion when he learned the music of Jimi Hendrix and discovered his passion for cinema and theater.

Chichin died of cancer on November 28, 2007 at the age of 53 and is buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre .

Artistic career

Chichin left school at the age of 16 and hitchhiked through Amsterdam, London and Morocco singing for a few years, working for the post office, handing out brochures, accompanying a puppeteer with music and writing songs for his children's plays, was a technician at the opera, recording assistant and projectionist in the cinema to finance his passion for music.

He met Nicolas Frize, played acoustic-electronic music with him and gained further musical experience at Frize's Experimental Music Research Center in Vierzon . Then Chichin turned to rock music and founded the punk band "Fassbinder" with Jean Néplin, with whom Chichin remained friends until his death (2003) . Together they wrote a number of songs, some for other projects. Thus Avenue Du Crime on the album Seppuku by Daniel Darcs band Taxi Girl released while Elle Demande Quelqu'un in Jean-Luc Godard's music documentary droite Sonian ta 1987 was heard.

With Alain Kan and his brother Hugues (drums) he appeared in the band "Gazoline" at the end of the seventies, which gave concerts in the "Gibus", among others.

The paths of Catherine Ringer and Fred Chichin first crossed in spring 1979 at the music revue Flashes rouges in Montreuil (Paris). Chichin played as guitarist for the group "Le fond de l'air est rock", Catherine had a role as "victim" in the revue. The two became a couple personally and musically; the relationship resulted in three children.

1980 Catherine Ringer and Frédéric Chichin founded the avant-garde - Pop duo Les Rita Mitsouko , devoted to his style mix of jazz , rock, punk and influences from South America and Egypt quickly earned a reputation as among the most innovative music groups from France. Some songs by Chichin and Néplin ( Le Futur N ° 4 , Tonite , Perfect Eyes and La Belle Vie ) appeared on the debut LP Rita Mitsouko , published in 1984 . They had their first hit in France with Marcia Baila . Two years later, in 1986, the singles C'est comme ça and Andy from the LP The No Comprendo also achieved international success. In addition to his own productions, he recorded videos and films with many other artists. Les Rita Mitsouko existed until Frederic Chichin's death in 2007. The duo released other records ( Marc et Robert (1988), Systems D (1993), Cool Frénésie (2000), La Femme Trombone (2002), Variéty (2007)) and left on concert tours.
