Vera Kaa (born March 27, 1960 in Lucerne , Switzerland ; real name Vera Kaeslin ) is a Swiss singer .
Life
She grew up in a guest house on Lake Lucerne and sang songs for guests as a child. As a teenager, she was in the jazz rock band Pnö and the hard rock band B.M. Smith .
Her first solo album from 1981, That makes you fresh , won the Phonoakademie Prize in Germany. In 1982 she released the album Korrekt , followed a year later by Zeit der Wölfe .
In 1985 she broke up her band and made a detour to the theater, played in musicals, sang Brecht and sea shanties . In 1991 she brought out another rock album, Different Ways , which, in contrast to earlier works, was almost entirely in English. In the 1992 album Tango she sang in Swiss German and went a little more to jazz and blues.
A year later, based on her previous chanson program, she brought out the album Von Brecht bis Blues and went on tour with it. In addition to Brecht, she also voiced Édith Piaf , Zarah Leander , Marlene Dietrich and Billie Holiday .
For her album In-Team she won the Prix Walo in 1997 in the category "Singer / Songwriter". Two years later followed the Swiss German Somehow ... will it be good , 2004 then Wotschmi (Will you me).
