The hit of the month is a TV show that has been broadcast on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) since April 28, 2018 . The show is moderated by Bernhard Brink .

Charisma

Since 2019, the hit of the month has usually been broadcast on the first Friday of each subsequent month at 8:15 p.m. on MDR. In 2018, it was broadcast on the last Friday of every month with one exception. The only exception was the September 2018 edition, which was broadcast one week later due to the live broadcast of the Golden Hen 2018 . The title song 100 Million Volt was written by Simon Allert and Christian Bömkes , produced by Henning Verlage and interpreted by Brink. On January 17, 2020, the special edition Die Schlagercharts presented for the first time an edition with the annual charts of the previous year.

The top 50 hits are presented in several rapid runs - while individual music videos by placed artists are played. In addition to the top 50 hits , the broadcast between the music videos also includes other categories in which the world of hit music is also looked at away from the music charts.

Hit Top 50

The focus of the program is the current evaluation of the official German hits Top 50 . The monthly Top 50 hits , like the weekly Top 20 hits, are determined by the German market research company GfK Entertainment on behalf of the Federal Association of the Music Industry . They record sales of image or sound carriers, downloads and music streaming with German hits to end consumers. These are “ repertoire charts” that depict the “German Schlager” market segment. They show an excerpt from the regular album Top 100 , in which sales are recorded regardless of any repertoire segment. The German Schlagercharts are not just repertoire charts, but also “artist charts”, meaning samplers are not taken into account. A parallel placement of a product in both the album Top 100 and the Schlagercharts Top 20 is therefore not only possible in principle, but will be the rule for products that sell well. From January 2001 to June 2015, the German hit charts were published monthly in a top 20 chart list. In the course of the restructuring and the continued success in Schlager, the top 20 hits have been determined weekly since July 3, 2015 . Since August 2018, the monthly top 50 hits have been determined in addition to the weekly top 20 hits .

Front runners and studio guests

Brink usually received a studio guest in the first broadcasts, since the sixth issue Brink has usually received two studio guests per issue. Since the seventh episode, Mathias Giloth - the managing director of GfK - has been a regular guest and provides information about the new publications of the following month as well as some chart statistics. Until the sixth episode, Giloth transmitted this information in a single player.

From April 25, 1963 to March 19, 1964, the second German television station ( ZDF ) broadcast a music program entitled Schlager of the Month on the last Thursday of each month . The “most popular melodies” from specialist magazines, record sales, sheet music sales and hit parades from German and foreign broadcasters were determined.
