Ibo , real name Ibrahim Bekirović , (born July 22, 1961 in Skopje , SR Macedonia , SFR Yugoslavia ; † November 18, 2000 in St. Pankraz , Austria ) was a German pop singer.

Life

Bekirović had been a full-time musician since the late 1970s. In 1983 he recorded his first record (I ask too much) , which was already a mediocre success. He only used his abbreviated first name Ibo as his stage name, sometimes also spelled IBO.

In 1985 he had his first big hit with Ibiza . He was a guest in numerous music shows on television. More hits followed, so that he was soon one of the most successful hit stars of the 1980s.

In 1996 Ibo took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . With his song The love of God is very enthusiastic , he was able to take fifth place out of a total of ten participants.

His songwriters Mick Hannes and Walter Gerke came from the group Franz K. In his live band played u. a. Alex Schwers from the punk band Hass and Gregor Kerkmann.

On November 18, 2000, Ibo died in a car accident through no fault of his own on the way back to an appearance in Austria when his car was rammed by a truck.

Ibo was married to Diana, with whom he has twin daughters (* 1991). He lived in Gladbeck until his death , where he was also buried.
