Ute Freudenberg (born January 12, 1956 in Weimar- Schöndorf; occasional stage name Heather Jones ) is a German pop and pop singer .

life and work

In 1971, at the age of 15, Ute Freudenberg was discovered as a singing talent in what is now the Feuerkuppe holiday park in Straussberg near Sondershausen in the Kyffhäuserkreis . In 1972 she prevailed with five other girls in a young talent competition for female musical talents. In the same year she had her first television appearance on Six Girls and Music . From 1972 to 1977 she studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in her hometown. In 1976 she was a founding member of the rock band Elefant , which released two LPs and twelve singles. Her best-known song is still a childhood love , which is one of the "classics of GDR rock and pop history". Other hits from the GDR era were How far is it to the end of this world? , And again a person is born and for me there is no strange suffering in a duet with Wolfgang Ziegler .

On March 15, 1984, Ute Freudenberg married the stuntman Peter Pieper, who was 13 years her senior , and separated from him in 2010. Also in 1984 she did not return to the GDR after appearing on TV in the current showroom in Hamburg . She moved to Düsseldorf , worked as a studio singer and performed in the Netherlands and on cruise ships. In 1988 she sang the theme song This was the last time under the stage name Heather Jones for the Tatort episode Pleitegeier . In 1990 the single Ein Tag wie heute ' , the German version of the Whitney Houston hit One Moment in Time, was released . In 1994 her album was released And there you ask . From 1994 to 1996 Ute Freudenberg appeared in many television programs.

In 1996 she moved back to her hometown Weimar and founded the Ute F. Live Band with the line-up Micki Schläger ( keyboards ), Manfred Schermuly ( drums ), Thomas Hödtke ( bass ), Ralf Rudnik ( guitar ). In 1997 her album Land in Sicht was released . On the occasion of her 25th stage anniversary, she celebrated a gala concert in Erfurt with many artist colleagues such as the band Karat . With Wolfgang Ziegler she sang the title song There is no stranger suffering for me for the José Carreras gala of the same name on ARD. In 1999 the CD Jubilee was released . In 2000, Ute Freudenberg presented the 90-minute MDR television program I love every hour on the occasion of Karat's 25th stage anniversary. In October the album Träumerland was released with titles such as Thankful for every day and Because we are friends .

On March 23, 2002, Ute Freudenberg celebrated her 30th stage anniversary with her band and numerous guests in Weimar. Many TV appearances followed and in 2003 the OSTival tour together with the Puhdys and City . The album In the Name of Love was released, produced by Franz Bartzsch and Bodo Kommnick . In October 2006 the album Puppenspieler was released , again in collaboration with Ute's regular authors such as Franz Bartzsch, Herbert Stanzius and Kirsten Steineckert. From the summer of 2007, Ute Freudenberg was on several occasions as part of the Ostrock in classical tours with the Puhdys, Karat, Silly , Veronika Fischer , Werther Lohse von Lift , Dirk Michaelis and the Babelsberg film orchestra , where the artists performed numerous old hits in a new guise . In 2011 she made it to number 1 in the German radio hit charts in a duet with Christian Lais with the title Auf den Dächern von Berlin . In the singles sales charts, the title was listed at number 25 in the first week. Later, she and Lais received a gold record for the album Un Divided . Together, the duo was nominated for an Echo 2012 .

In 2012 her autobiography Jugendliebe - Die Biographie, written together with Christine Dähn , was published by Neues Leben in Berlin.

Together with Christian Lais, Ute Freudenberg released a socially critical and political album called Lebenslinien in 2016 . It covers topics such as humanity (“For the peace of our time”), environmental protection (“You children of tomorrow”) and elections (“Until after the election”).

Awards

  • In 1975 she won the young talent award at the GDR Chansontage .
  • From 1980 to 1984 Ute Freudenberg was voted the most popular singer in the GDR four times.
  • In 1998 she received the Golden Hen Media Prize .
  • In 1999 the Braunschweig Carnival Association awarded her the order Till - the rogue - a person .
  • The readers of Super-Illu and Super TV as well as the viewers of the MDR voted the song Jugendliebe as the most popular GDR hit of all time in a survey.
  • In December 2006 Ute Freudenberg was awarded the Herbert Roth Prize of the State of Thuringia as the most successful Thuringian artist .
  • On October 6, 2008 Ute Freudenberg received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her commitment as patron of McDonald's Children's Aid .
