Franz Bartzsch (born June 8, 1947 in Schmölln ; † January 5, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German musician, singer and composer.

Musical development

After graduating from the Polytechnic High School in 1964, Bartzsch learned the profession of electrical engineer by 1967 and also played with the Terosit-Combo. He had five years of piano lessons at the music school. After completing his military service in the autumn of 1968, he attended the Friedrichshain Music School in East Berlin from 1968 to 1972 with the subjects of piano and dance music. In 1968 he became a member of a quartet in East Berlin that included Gunter Wosylus and Dieter Hertrampf (later Puhdys ). In 1969 he became a bassist in the Gerhard Stein Combo . In 1971 he switched to the Dresden Septet . After a short interlude with the Horst Krüger Band , he went to Lift . The band emerged from the Dresden Septet in 1973. In 1974 he founded a band together with the singer Veronika Fischer and the guitarist Johannes Biebl , which became known nationally and internationally as Veronika Fischer & Band. Bartzsch played the piano and keyboard in the band and was the musical director. As a composer and arranger, Bartzsch was instrumental in the success of Veronika Fischer. Titles like Blues from Last Chance , Auf der Wiese and In That Night became hits.

At the beginning of 1977 the band separated from Veronika Fischer and after a short period of time, as 4 HP, they once again achieved top spots in TV and radio rating programs. She won the Grand Prix and the press award at the hit festival of the socialist countries in 1977 in Dresden and successfully represented the GDR at the Sopot song festival in 1978. The band's music, a mixture of pop and rock with clear blues and chanson influences, revealed the different musical styles Origin of the two front men Bartzsch and Biebl, who complemented each other at the same time. From 1979 the band worked again regularly with Veronika Fischer. When Bartzsch did not return to the GDR the following year after performing in West Berlin , this also meant the temporary end of Fischer's career. A short time later, 4 HP dissolved.

Before leaving the GDR, Franz Bartzsch had composed other successful titles for Dina Straat , Ute Freudenberg , Gaby Rückert and Angelika Mann . Bartzsch also wrote the music for the successful DEFA feature film Hostess . Although Veronika Fischer also moved to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1981, she and Bartzsch did not resume their collaboration. In Germany, Bartzsch worked as a studio musician , composed and arranged for Udo Jürgens and Roland Kaiser and worked as a successful film music composer ( five million and a couple crushed , ice-cold love , weird family and Einstein Castle and news from Büttenwarder ).

In 2001, after a 20-year break, Franz Bartzsch and Veronika Fischer stood on stage together again for the first time in Berlin-Weißensee on the occasion of their 30th stage anniversary . Due to the great success, a joint tour through the new federal states followed. On May 15, 2002 the Academy of Music "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden celebrated an anniversary party under the motto "40 Years of Jazz Rock Pop", at which Bartzsch together with well-known former lecturers and students, including Günter Sommer , Helmut Forsthoff and Bernd Aust , performed. When long-time band colleague Frank Hille died on November 26, 2004 , Bartzsch organized a memorial concert that took place on January 3, 2005 in Berlin.

In 2007, Buschfunk released the CD Wind carries all words away . His most successful titles can be found on this CD. Bartzsch wrote the title song for the Dresden Septet; it was part of the Lift group's repertoire for a long time.
