After graduating as a nurse in 1966, she began training as a singer at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden in 1968 . She gained her first practical experience with the Klaus Lenz Sextet and the Manfred Ludwig Sextet . In particular, the changing formations of Klaus Lenz were an important "cadre forge" for numerous musicians and performers in the GDR . In 1969 Dina Straat moved to the Dresden Sextet , which later became the Lift group . She became known with the titles I'm in love, There was already love in it and When you came back, which the band leader Gerhard Zachar composed for her. In 1971 the band released the single Sie, which can be heard on Dina Straat.

In 1973 she left the band. She then worked with the Gustav Brom Orchestra from the ČSSR and went on tour with Jiří Korn and Karel Gott , among others . In October 1974 she married Gerhard Zachar.

From 1982 to 1984 Straat belonged to the band Kleeblatt , with whom she landed the hit hang gliding . This band combined electronic pop music with elements of classical music and flamenco and worked for a time with a string quartet from the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra .

In 1990 Dina Straat started her first solo program, accompanied by the Manfred Nytsch Band. From 2000 she drew attention to herself with the hit show Dina Straat in the team and the solo program Die Familienfeier and appears with programs for children. Her greatest successes include the German version of Morning of my Life, Versichert is Versichert, as well as Eine Frau die Liebe sucht (music: Franz Bartzsch , text: Dina Straat) and her version of the lift classic Jeden Abend (2003).
