How do I raise my parents? is a German comedy series by MDR from 2002. It is still broadcast on KI.KA and on ARD . After the first seasons of the series had been broadcast several times, but the child actors had already outgrown their age, a new edition with new actors was published in 2010 as a so-called third season, which, however, has no plot link to the original series.

action

How do I raise my parents? is about the Wolkenfuß and Freytag families, who by mistake both bought the same semi-detached house (Hirtenweg 1a and 1b) in Taucha near Leipzig. Both feel at home when they move in and have adjusted themselves mentally, if it weren't for the requirement of who should get which half. The first tangible argument by psychiatrist Dr. Karl Wolkenfuß ( Heinrich Schafmeister ) and dentist Dr. Edwina Freytag ( Amina Gusner ) leaves their children Felix Wolkenfuß ( Maximilian Seidel ) and Johnny - actually Johanna - Freytag ( Sina Tkotsch ) desperate. Both are eleven years old (in the first season), remain sensible and get along quickly. But they have the greatest difficulties in “bringing up” their parents.

The adults do what they want: sniffing, knowing better, forbidding, showing off, etc. - but the children don't just want to accept that. Johnny and Felix work together to raise their parents, Edwina "Eddy" Freytag and Karl Wolkenfuß are put in their place time and again in a charming, tricky, cheeky and challenging manner. The single neighbor Asta Engel-Butz ( Ursula Staack ) is at their side and causes the craziest confusions. As a cheeky thinking dog, the Bearded Collie Rollo (spoken by Gunter Schoß ) can also let go of many a saying. In the second season, Johnny and Felix are already 14 years old and therefore have to master their first teenage problems together with their parents.

New edition from 2010

When shooting started in July 2008, a “third season” was filmed in Erfurt, but the cast (with the exception of Heinrich Schafmeister ), the characters in the series and the location have changed completely, and only the series name, which goes to “How do I raise my parents? - From Fathers and Daughters ”has been added, as well as the title melody has remained. Basically, it's a new series, which is why the Internet Movie Database also calls it “How do I raise my parents? (2010) "lists. Screenwriter Sibylle Durian let the series characters Dr. Christoph Hasenkötter ( Felix Eitner ) and his stepbrother Dr. Carlo Mittenzwey (Heinrich Schafmeister) live together in an old villa because of a parental will. The daughters Henriette "Jette" ( Cleo-Johanna Budde ), Konstanze "Konny" ( Gina Stiebitz ) and neighbor Rita Rabe ( Anja Franke ) with their son Yilmaz ( Lucas Korn ) complete this shared apartment. Despite the much younger age of the child actors, no further seasons of this new edition were shot.
