Christian Lais (born June 7, 1963 in Lörrach ) is a German hit , pop and folk musician from Kandern in the Black Forest.

Career

Christian Lais grew up without his biological father with his single mother and grandparents. At the age of seven he learned to play the accordion and began to sing. He took part in talent competitions and sang in various cover bands until the late 1990s. Later he worked as a background singer and got to know the producer David Brandes .

In the early 2000s he got a record deal with a song he had written himself and made his own solo recordings. He was featured on Bernhard Brink's hit samplers with songs like Forever and I've never lost you . In 2008 he finished his first album Mein Weg with David Brandes . The single she forgot to forgive'n got his breakthrough in the same year, it was one of the most successful hit singles of the year and placed 67th in the German single charts .

A setback occurred in January 2009 when a tumor was diagnosed behind his vocal cords that could be removed. The operation and voice building prevented him from continuing his career for over a year. The second album Ich bin ich , released in early 2009, received little attention without his performances. In 2010 he released his third album breathless and made it into the album charts.

The following year Brandes had the idea for a duet by Lais together with the East German pop singer Ute Freudenberg, whom he also mentored . The song Auf den Dächern von Berlin , which addresses German reunification , was a great success and reached number 25 in the charts, a high ranking for hit singles. Freudenberg and Lais then recorded an entire album together entitled UnShare . It reached number 14 on the charts and was awarded a gold record for over 100,000 copies sold . The following year Lais released his postponed solo album Neugebor'n and made it into the charts again. The collaboration with Ute Freudenberg then started again. They recorded a second album called Traces of Us . At number 13, it exceeded the first duet album by one more place.

It took two years until Christian Lais' next solo album. In 2015 album 7 was released , which, including the two duet albums, was his seventh album in the seventh year after his debut album. At number 53, it is his best-placed solo album in the charts.

In December 2017, Christian Lais took part in the pop stars project for children and sang the Christmas hit "Auf once" with the group. The hit was released in December and the proceeds will benefit children in need. The song was re-recorded in 2018 and released again for Christmas.
