Eloy Francois Maurice Gilbert Charles Prosper de Jong (born March 13, 1973 in The Hague ) is a Dutch pop singer and presenter . He became known in the early 1990s as a member of the Anglo- Dutch boy group Caught in the Act . In 2004 he made a comeback as a solo singer. He also worked as an expert in creative media. In 2018 he reached number 1 in the German album charts with his German-language album.

Life

As a teenager, Eloy de Jong was the Dutch youth champion in Latin American dances . In 1993 it emerged successfully from the casting organized by producer Cees van Leeuwen , in which the boy band Caught in the Act was put together. After the initial failure of the band after a performance in the managed RTL - soap opera Gute Zeiten in November 1994, the breakthrough in the Netherlands and Germany . By 1998 the band placed three albums in the German top ten and sold more than 20 million records. After a farewell concert on August 16, 1998 in Magdeburg , the band split up.

In the summer of 1999, de Jong came back into the public eye when he and his friend, Irish singer Stephen Gately ( Boyzone ), were the first members of boy bands to come out as gay . In 2002 they parted ways. Afterwards De Jong was in a relationship with the presenter Carlo Boszhard for a while.

In 2004 de Jong started his career as a solo singer and landed a smaller hit in his home country with the single Angel In Disguise .

On October 5, 2008, he was in the VOX telecast Perfect Celebrity Dinner with Oswalt Kolle , Ellen ten Damme and Fabrice Morvan seen. He also won this competition.

De Jong has been traveling as a solo artist in Germany since 2014. De Jong started a family a few years ago and he and his partner became fathers of a daughter and a son, the latter of whom died in childbirth. The girl grows up with two fathers and her mother, following the model of co-parenting .

In mid-August 2017, he took part in the fifth season of Celebrity Big Brother . Then Eloy de Jong released his first German-language single Regenbogen at the end of August . On March 17, 2018, he presented his second single, no matter what others say, on the Silbereisen show Heimlich! - Big hit surprise . It is a German version of Boyzone's No Matter What and is dedicated to his former partner Stephen Gately, who would have been 42nd birthday on the day of the performance. With his hit album Kopf aus - Herz auf, he entered the charts at number 2 in Germany and Austria in mid-June. Shortly afterwards, after an injunction , he reached an out-of-court settlement with the German rock band Eloy and due to the risk of confusion he is no longer allowed to use his first name as a stage name.
