Crossfire is a song by the Bellamy Brothers from 1977. The cover version of Hoffmann & Hoffmann , raspberry ice cream for breakfast , became very well known in German-speaking countries .
Origin and text
The country pop song was composed by Dick Holler and Jerry Careaga, and Phil Gernhard produced it. The song is about the protagonist's feelings after a failed relationship. Even with excursions, reading and watching TV, he does not manage to distract himself, looks for a "lost smile" and feels as if he is standing in the crossfire .
Publication and reception
The single was released in March 1977 by Warner Bros. , but was not a major success, except in Germany , where it reached number 17 in the charts and stayed for 26 weeks, and in New Zealand with number 14 and nine weeks in the chart. In Germany, the appearance at Disco on May 28, 1977 also contributed to the success.
Version by Hoffmann & Hoffmann
The Hoffmann & Hoffmann brothers achieved 14th place in Germany with their cover version, Raspberry Ice Cream for Breakfast , published by Atlantic Records in April 1977 with a text by Bernd Opinion, and were placed for 19 weeks. It was her first big hit. The song can also be found on numerous compilations . In contrast to the original, the song is slightly modified and is played a little faster and higher. The protagonist has fallen in love with his friend's fiancée, who is already wearing her wedding dress . He kidnaps the bride , whereupon she surprisingly stays with him . Together they eat " raspberry ice cream for breakfast" and dance " rock 'n' roll in the elevator ". However, the relationship does not last.
The duo also performed their version at Disco on September 17, 1977 . The duo also reached number 19 in the ZDF hit parade on January 9, 1978 , but was not on the show. A planned appearance in the super hit parade 1983 did not take place due to the separation of the duo, raspberry ice cream for breakfast was replaced by Mike Krüger's Der Nippel .
