Let the sun in your heart was the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 , which was sung by the group Wind in German. He achieved second place in the competition with 141 points.

Music and lyrics

It is a mid-tempo hit / pop song based on a reggae rhythm. The text is about seeing things positively and living your dreams optimistically: "Let the sun into your heart / send the longing skyward / give the dream a little freedom / let the sun into your heart".

Origin and reception

The music and text come from the well-known Schlager and ESC composer duo Ralph Siegel and Bernd Augener . The single was released in April 1987 on Jupiter Records . On the B-side of the German single is the song Immer bei , while the Dutch version contains the English version of the song, Let the Sun Shine in Your Heart . On March 26, 1987, Wind won with Let the sun in your heart the preliminary decision in Nuremberg , a song for Brussels , broadcast on the ARD , with the title against peace for the teddy bears by Maxi & Chris Garden , also written by Siegel / Opinion was enforced.

On May 20, 1987, Wind appeared with the song in the ZDF hit parade and reached seventh place via the then current ticket procedure. In the following edition on June 24, 1987 the song reached number two. In the summer hit parade from Binz on July 4, 1996 , a themed edition with summer hits, the group was allowed to perform the song again, it was again in fifth place. The single reached number 20 in the German charts and was placed for eleven weeks, in Austria it came in at number 18, in the Netherlands at number 26 and in Belgium ( Flanders ) at number five.

Eurovision Song Contest

After the preliminary decision, Rob Pilatus (later Milli Vanilli ) joined the group, who performed in Brussels. Let the sun in your heart was listed in 16th place in the Song Contest (after Christine Minier for Belgium with Les mots d'amour n'ont pas de dimanche and before Alexia for Cyprus with Aspro Mavro ). The conductor was Laszlo Bencker. At the end of the vote, the song had received 141 points and took second place in a field of 22, for the second time after the group Wind had already achieved this place in 1985 with Für alle .
