Lied für eine Freund was the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 , which was sung in German by mother and daughter Maxi & Chris Garden . He reached 14th place in the competition with 48 points. It was the only time in the history of the competition that mother and daughter competed as a duet.

Music and lyrics

There is a piano-dominated pop - / pop - ballad , which was played by Maxi & Chris Garden live four hands. Origin and reception

Music and lyrics come from the well-known Schlager and ESC composer duo Ralph Siegel and Bernd Augener , the producer was Ralph Siegel. The single was released in the spring of 1988 on Jupiter Records . On the B-side of the German single is the song Du und Ich . An English version of the song, Song for a Friend, and a French version, Chant pour un ami, were also recorded. On March 31st, Maxi & Chris Garden won the preliminary round in Nuremberg , Ein Lied für Dublin , which was broadcast on ARD , with Lied für eine Freund , after they last year made peace for the teddy bears , which was also written by Siegel / Opinioner had achieved. At the beginning of the performance, the loudspeakers fell out in the whole hall, only Maxi & Chris Garden continued to sing because they had the playback in their ears. In the auditorium, however, only the two voices could be heard without amplification. Ralph Siegel later said: “The result was accordingly. I almost died. ”At the end of the vote, the song had received 48 points and was 14th out of 21.
