Fiesta Mexicana is a German-language hit that was sung by Rex Gildo and reached number five in the German charts. It is not only considered to be Rex Gildo's most famous song, but also one of the most famous German hits, which is also often referred to or used as a mood and carnival song.

Origin and text

The song was written by Ralph Siegel together with Michael Holm (text) and produced by Siegel, who later stated that he invented the multiple exclamation "Hossa", which does not exist in the Spanish language.

The song is about a farewell party with many friends, at which alcohol, especially a lot of " Tequila that makes you happy", is drunk.

Publication and reception

Fiesta Mexicana was published by Ariola in September 1972 . The song quickly became a hit and reached number five in the German charts (29 chart weeks). It was Siegel's first composition to reach the top ten in German-speaking countries. In 1972 it also appeared on Rex Gildo's album Mein Autograph . The song is also included on various compilations , for example on 1963–1973 - 10 years ZDF from 1973. In 1973, Fiesta Mejicana , a Spanish-language version of Rex Gildo was also released.

In the ZDF hit parade , Fiesta Mexicana was voted second after the broadcast on October 28, 1972 ; Rex Gildo therefore sang the song again in the following broadcast on November 25, 1972 and reached number one. This gave him a third appearance on December 23, 1972. Rex Gildo also sang the song in the show Super-Hitparade - hits that you won't forget on December 10, 1981 and in Die Superhitparade aus dem ZDF Fernsehgarten 1974–1978 on 4. September 1994; in the latter broadcast it was the last song. In the ZDF show disco , Rex Gildo performed with Fiesta Mexicana on March 3, 1973 .

In the movie Caipiranha - Beware! Biting neighbor! from 1998 the song is used.
