Ricky King
Ricky King (born March 12, 1946 in Rastatt ; actually Hans Lingenfelder ) is a German guitarist .
Life path
Hans Lingenfelder learned to play the guitar autodidactically . After completing his school education, he completed an apprenticeship as a radio and television technician . In addition to his professional work, he studied music at the Karlsruhe University of Music and in 1971 passed the exam to become a state-certified music teacher . As early as 1960 he played in various local bands, from 1973 King was a member of the band "Hit Kids" and worked as a studio musician for German pop artists such as Paola , Roberto Blanco and Costa Cordalis .
Lingenfelder began his career as a solo artist in 1976 under the stage name Cliff King , which he changed to Ricky King for legal reasons . His first title was the instrumental piece Verde , which was originally the opening melody of an Italian television documentary entitled Quaranta giorni di libertà about the partisan republic of Ossola . The authors were Guido & Maurizio De Angelis , known as Oliver Onions and through the music for the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill films. The song reached number 3 in Germany and number 4 in Austria and was even a number 1 hit in Switzerland . In addition, it came in at number 5 in Belgium and number 10 in the Netherlands. His debut album Ricky King Plays Fantastic Guitar Hits landed in Germany at number 10. The success was enough to win Roland Kaiser with his sung version Frei, that is to say alone the to bring first sales success and to come to number 14 in the German single charts.
As the second song for a single release, King chose a Spanish guitar melody from the 19th century, known among other things as Romanza or Romance Anónimo . It became popular in 1952 with the French film Forbidden Games . Under the title Le rêve , the single reached the top 10 in German-speaking countries, and Bernhard Brink 's version, Liebe , reached number 13 on time . With other singles he was not so successful afterwards and Mare and Maria Elena came just under the top 50. In the late 1970s, the albums by Ricky King were all the more successful. 20 world hits in guitar sound came in second place in Germany and achieved platinum status . The gold album Magic of the Guitar also made it into the top 10 in Austria.
In 1982 King had another single hit with the single Halé, hey Louise, written by Dieter Bohlen and his then wife Erika, with choir accompaniment. The associated album Happy Guitar Dancing once again reached number 3 in Germany and gold status. From 1976 to 1983 Ricky King had one album in the top 25 of the German album charts every year. In the mid-1980s, its success then waned.
King's guitar instrumentals are based on the style of the 1950s and 1960s. His role models are Hank Marvin (guitarist for the band The Shadows ), Ventures and The Spotnicks . Like Marvin, King mostly used a Fender Stratocaster on stage . In addition to some new compositions, Ricky King's albums mainly contain newly arranged guitar classics. King's successes are closely linked to the producers Gerd Köthe and Roland Heck, with whom together more than 30 albums were created. In total, King sold over six million records.
Lingenfelder has been a baptized Jehovah's Witness since 1979 .
