Elmar Kraushaar (born August 11, 1950 in Niederurff ) is a German journalist and writer .

Life and education

Born in Niederurff in northern Hesse , Elmar Kraushaar grew up in the neighboring village of Gilsa . His brother is the political scientist Wolfgang Kraushaar . He first attended the König-Heinrich-Schule in Fritzlar and then graduated from the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Homberg / Efze . From 1971 to 1979 he studied Romance and German at the Free University (FU) in Berlin . In 1973/74 he worked at the University of Lille / France as "professeur assistant". In the meantime he lived in Wolfhagen - Ippinghausen .

Elmar Kraushaar lives with his partner, the journalist Hans-Hermann Kotte, in the Hansaviertel in Berlin-Tiergarten .

Political commitment

Immediately after his arrival in Berlin he became a member of Homosexual Action Westberlin (HAW), one of the most active German gay groups in the early 1970s.

Professional activities and publications

As a journalist, Elmar Kraushaar initially worked as an editor for the Berlin gay magazine Siegessäule . From 1986 he was an editor at the Berliner tageszeitung (taz) , from where he switched to RIAS TV in 1990 . In the course of the dissolution of the RIAS, he switched to DW-TV , the international television broadcaster of Deutsche Welle , in 1992 . Here he worked until 2005, first as a reporter and later in the newsroom. In addition, from 1992 to 1997 he worked as a freelancer for the news magazine Spiegel , specializing in homosexuality and AIDS . He is the author of the highly regarded monthly column The Homosexual Man ... , in which he critically examined social conditions and gay behavior and forms of organization. It first appeared from 1985 in the Victory Column , later in the Magnus and from February 1995 to December 2015 in the section The Truth in the taz . For a short time there was a female counterpart to Viola Roggenkamp until she turned to other work. Under the same title, a book with a selection from these contributions was published by Männerschwarmskript-Verlag in March 2004.

Kraushaar's first book was published by Rosa Winkel in 1977 and was entitled Schwule Lyrik - gay prose . Together with Matthias Frings , he published the books Men, Love and Hot Years at Rowohlt Taschenbuch Verlag in 1982 . He worked on the book Liebesdinge , also edited by Rowohlt by Matthias Frings .

To this day he has worked as a book author and as a freelancer for various daily newspapers ( Frankfurter Rundschau , Berliner Zeitung , Tagesspiegel ).

As a great friend of German and international hits , he edited the book Rote Lips and published writings and CDs on well-known German hit stars.
