Hellmut Matthias Frings (born April 14, 1953 in Aachen ) is a German journalist , television presenter and writer .

Life

Frings grew up in Aachen and attended school there until he graduated from high school . He then studied English , German and linguistics at RWTH Aachen University from 1974 to 1977 . As a homosexual student, he was involved in founding the local gay group Aachener Printenschwestern in 1974 . After completing his master's degree, he moved to Berlin.

In the late 1970s he was a member of the independent theater group Zan Pollo in Berlin. He worked as an actor, waiter, taxidermist and freelance for the ZDF culture magazine, aspects . In 1982, together with Elmar Kraushaar, he published his first book, Männer-Liebe bei Rowohlt . From 1985 he worked as a radio presenter for the Sender Freies Berlin , as well as for various newspapers and magazines.

From 1992 onwards he was the producer and presenter of the television program Liebe Sünde at the VOX broadcaster and switched to ProSieben in 1993 , where he presented this program until 1995. He was followed by Andrea Thilo and Mo Asumang as presenters, while Frings continued to produce the show. In addition, he worked as a journalist and moderator of panel discussions.

For his biography about Ronald M. Schernikau , with whom he was a personal friend, he was nominated in 2009 for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the “ Non-Fiction ” category.
