The König-Heinrich-Schule (KHS) is a high school in Fritzlar in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder-Kreis . It was created in 1948 by the increase in the urban church school to secondary school and was in 1955 after the year 919 in Fritzlar for King of the Holy Roman Empire elected Henry I named.
Terrain and location
The school has been located on the eastern outskirts of Fritzlar since 1972 when it left its old building by the cathedral in the city center. The school grounds include seven buildings equipped for disabled people as well as two biotopes that can be designed by the students.
profile
The KHS has been part of the “Europaschule” school development project since 1998 . It has around 90 teachers and is attended by around 1,100 students from grades five to thirteen. Their catchment area in the northern part of the Schwalm-Eder district and in neighboring towns in the districts of Kassel and Waldeck-Frankenberg has a radius of around 20 km. In her school program she focuses on foreign languages, arts subjects and MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology).
An important part of intercultural education is the network exchange that has been taking place since 1992, where students from different European countries (including the Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Poland) meet for a week to work together on a cultural, scientific or political project . This project takes place in the qualification phase of the upper level.
Since the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year, KHS has been a "school for climate protection". With this in mind, there is the option of using the school biotope or taking part in the Hessen SolarCup , in which KHS has achieved success in recent years. In addition, KHS has had its own photovoltaic system since 1998, which is used for teaching purposes.
history
In 1921, under the pressure of inflation, the municipal (Catholic) Latin school and the Protestant higher private school , which had existed since 1892 (at that time 125 students), merged to form the rectorate school , which ran up to the upper secondary level. In 1925 the school signed a contract with the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Kassel so that Fritzlar school leavers could take their Abitur there. In 1948 the rectorate school was increased to a secondary school.
