Dirk Schmitz from Hülst

Dirk Schmitz von Hülst (born July 14, 1943 in Magdeburg ) is a German sociologist.

Life

Schmitz von Hülst passed his Abitur in 1963 at the König-Heinrich-Schule in Fritzlar, North Hesse , and then studied sociology, psychology (psychoanalysis), statistics, political science and economics at the University of Frankfurt am Main . He then worked as an assistant at Helge Pross in Giessen. His dissertation and doctorate in Giessen "On the relationship between sociological empiricism and theory" was awarded the university prize. After working as a university assistant at the Free University of Berlin and temporarily holding various professorships for sociology in Gießen, he worked at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1979 . He completed his habilitation there in 1998 in sociology and from 1999 taught as a professor of sociology. He has been retired since October 1st, 2008.

His research focuses on a. Symbol theory and symbol research, cultural sociology , education and training , statistics , EDP , qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research, epistemological theory of the social sciences and newer directions in sociological theory.
