Uwe Uffelmann

Uwe Uffelmann (born October 11, 1937 in Kassel ; † November 21, 2008 in Neckargemünd ) was a German historian and history teacher .

Life

Uffelmann studied history, German literature and education in Marburg and Heidelberg and received his doctorate from Heidelberg University in 1965. phil. Since 1959 he was a member of the Heidelberger Wingolf student union . From 1965 to 1971 he was a high school teacher at the König-Heinrich-Schule in Fritzlar . From 1967 to 1969 he completed an accompanying political science course. In 1971 he was appointed to the Heidelberg University of Education , where he held the chair for history and its didactics from 1973 to 2003 and taught middle and modern history as well as history didactics. From 2000 to 2002 he was director of the Institute for Social Sciences.

From 1989 to 1999 he was the first chairman of the Conference for History Didactics of the Association of History Didactists in Germany. Since 2001 he has been honorary chairman of the conference. Uffelmann was a corresponding member of the commission for historical regional studies in Baden-Württemberg.

Research interests

Uffelmann stood out primarily in the field of history didactics and advocated problem orientation in history lessons (POGU). His attempt to design a new medieval curriculum was original . He also dealt strongly with the questions of identity formation through history.

His interests also included the didactics of the history of the Middle Ages, the history of the early Middle Ages and the Cistercians , the prehistory and history of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic. He also did research on the regional history of southwest Germany after the Second World War.

Editorial activity

From 1987 to 1989 he edited the historical seminar series . From 1993 he was together with Bernd Mütter , Bernd Schönemann and Hartmut Voit editor of the writings on history didactics . Together with Armin Reese , he was editor of the NF Historical Seminar series from 1991 .
