Bernd Schönemann

Bernd Schönemann (born July 17, 1954 in Cuxhaven ) is a German historian and history teacher .

Bernd Schönemann studied history and German at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 1978 he passed the examination for teaching at grammar schools. In 1980 and 1981 he worked as a research assistant at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research in Braunschweig with the project “History Lessons Between Science and Political Legitimation Needs”. From 1982 to 1983 he was a student trainee in Schleswig-Holstein. In 1983 Schönemann completed his dissertation on the subject of the Braunschweigische Gymnasium in state and society and passed the second state examination for teaching at grammar schools.

In 1984 he worked as a research assistant at the Georg Eckert Institute. At the same time he was a university assistant until 1990 and a research assistant at the Institute for Didactics of the History of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster until 1993 . In the winter semester 1992/93 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Leipzig . In 1993 he was appointed professor of history at the Department of History. From 2000 to 2004 he taught as a professor for modern and contemporary history and history didactics at the Historical Institute of the University of Dortmund . Since 2004, Schönemann has been professor for history didactics with special emphasis on historical culture at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster.

Functions and bodies

Management functions In 1997/1998 Schönemann was managing director of the historical seminar at Leipzig University. Between 1999 and 2007 he was chairman of the Conference for History Didactics (KGD). In 2001/2002 and 2003/2004 he worked at the University of Dortmund as Managing Director of the Historical Institute. In 2004/2005 he was deputy spokesman for the history review group of the Baden-Württemberg Evaluation Agency , which deals with the evaluation of the subject in teaching and study at universities and colleges of education in Baden-Württemberg. In 2005/2006 and 2007/2008 Schönemann was managing director of the Institute for Didactics of the History of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In the period 2008/2009 he is the chairman of the specialist history commission of the independent commission for the quality assurance of central examinations (NRW).

Committees and organizations Since 1988 Schönemann has been a member of the German-Polish textbook commission . In 1989 he was a member of the central jury of the German History Schoolchildren's Competition for the Federal President's Prize . Between 1998 and 2006 he was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research in Braunschweig. Between 1995 and 1999 he was treasurer on the board of the Conference for History Didactics (KGD). In addition, Schönemann was a member of the committee of the Association of Historians of Germany (VHD) from 2002 to 2008 .
