Burkhart "Hardi" Prinz (born August 23, 1939 in Gensungen ; † January 23, 2014 ibid) was a German handball player and coach .

After graduating from high school in 1958 at the König-Heinrich-Schule in Fritzlar , North Hesse , studying to be a high school teacher and completing a legal traineeship at the Albert-Schweitzer Schule in Kassel , Prinz joined the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule in October 1965 as a teacher of sports , geography and social studies in Melsungen , where he worked until his retirement in July 2003, most recently as senior teacher .

Since early youth, Prinz has played handball in his hometown club TSV Jahn Gensungen , which he later led as a player and in the 1970s as a player-coach and coach to its most successful years. He focused on the promotion of talent and thus steadily brought the village association upwards. His work culminated in 1978 with promotion to the single-track Bundesliga , introduced in 1977 , with players such as Günter Böttcher , Jörg Anacker, Franz Wagner and Rolf Günther, albeit under his successor as coach, Peter Barthelmey . Prince himself, who later also coached the men's team of SV Harleshausen Kassel and the women's team of SG 09 Kirchhof , was appointed youth national coach of the German Handball Federation due to his outstanding work with young players ; he held this office for nine years.

Burkhart Prinz, who had a daughter and two sons with his wife Ursula and who, in addition to his professional activity and handball, had also worked as a hunting expert for decades , died on January 23, 2014.
