Gensungen is the largest district of Felsberg with almost 3,000 inhabitants in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse . The place is southeast of the core town Felsberg on the opposite right bank of the Eder . The district of Gensungen covers an area of ​​9.98 square kilometers.

One of the first written mentions, in a document from the Breitenau monastery , is Geinsingen in 1253.

During the time of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813), Gensungen was the administrative seat of the canton of Gensungen .

Until the regional reform in Hesse , Gensungen was an independent municipality. On February 1, 1971, it merged with the communities of Hesserode and Heßlar to form the new community of Gensungen , which also included Beuern on December 31, 1971 and Melgershausen on April 1, 1972 . On January 1, 1974, the community was Gensungen powerful state law with the communities Brunslar , helmet Hausen , Hilgershausen and Rhünda and the City Felsberg to advanced city Felsberg together . The flag of the now dissolved community of Gensungen was approved by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior on April 3, 1969:

"The broad, red central line of the flag, framed by narrow golden side stripes, shows the coat of arms of the community of Gensungen in the upper third."

The Felsberg-Gensungen stop is on the Main-Weser Railway (Kassel-Frankfurt). The station building from 1849 was designed by Julius Eugen Ruhl .
