history

The first written mention of Böddiger ( Bodegernun , Bodengernun , Bodigernun , Bodogernun ) can be found in a document of Hasungen Abbey from the year 1074. In the village now live about 520 inhabitants. In 1585 37 households were counted, in 1747 there were 42. In 1895 the population had grown to 435, and it remained almost unchanged until the Second World War. Only then was there another increase in the population statistics, triggered by the influx of bombed out and displaced persons. The district of the village covers 464 ha .

On February 1, 1971, the municipality of Böddiger was incorporated into the city of Felsberg as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Culture and sights

church

Local church

The listed Protestant village church was built in 1799 in place of a previous church. The simple hall building is crowned with a high canopy roof turret. The baptismal font with tracery dates from the middle of the 15th century, the organ was built in the first half of the 18th century. The lectern with a negative relief from 1999, matching the sandstone relief above the entrance door with the symbol of justice, peace and preservation of the creation by the Franke brothers from Felsberg from 1982, comes from the Kassel wood sculptor Andreas Tollhopf. There are three bells hanging in the tower.

The northernmost vineyard in Hesse

Almost 1 km northeast of the village, on the southeast slope between the L 3426 and the Ems, lies the Böddiger Berg , the northernmost officially recognized vineyard in Hesse. It belongs to the Rheingau . The Ehrenfelser , Riesling , Silvaner and Kerner grape varieties are grown on a subsoil made of lava - basalt rock . After the harvest, the wine is brought to the Hessian state winery in Eltville am Rhein , where it is pressed, expanded and bottled.

Heron ponds nature reserve

To the east of the village, in the floodplain between Eder and Ems, inserted in a bend of the Eder and at the mouth of the Ems, is the "Heron Ponds" nature reserve created in 1983 , an important resting and breeding area for wading and water birds . It is a relatively shallow lake with an average of 1.80 m and a maximum of 3 m water depth. It was created from an exploited gravel pond in order to create and protect the habitats of animals and plants in a natural oxbow lake with open gravel areas, flat banks, two excavated islands, several floating islands, silting areas, shallow water areas and open water areas. In order to simulate natural floodplain dynamics, a lowering of the Eder bank with a simultaneous bed sill as an inflow during flooding and a sluice-controlled discharge was created.

Therapy center of drug help

About 5 hectares of the former vineyard have been owned by drug aid North Hesse e. V., which took over the area with the help of the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and has since operated a therapy facility for people at risk or addiction in the Böddiger Berg specialist clinic. Since viticulture is not in line with the goals of a facility for drug addicts, a large part of the vineyards was closed and cleared. Only on the two hectares that the “Förderverein Böddiger Berg e. V. “leased in 1992, viticulture has continued on an ecological basis ever since.
