The village of Deute has been a district of the north Hessian town of Gudensberg in the Schwalm-Eder district since 1972 . It is located in the historic Chattengau and lies on the B 254 approx. 20 km south of Kassel . The church and the village square with a fountain form the center of the village , which has around 950 inhabitants and numerous half-timbered houses . Today the place, east of the Lamsberg at the foot of the Lotterberg , is hardly characterized by agriculture, but has become a place of residence for employees in Kassel, Baunatal or Melsungen.

Surname

The place name has been changed several times over the centuries. In a document dated April 10, 1314, Deute is first mentioned as “Villa Thoyten”, although it is one of the oldest settlements in Hesse (see the origins of the church). In 1552 the village was named “Theuta” in a document, and in 1747 it was named “Dorfschaft Deutta” in a “warehouse piece and tax book”.

history

In 1348 the "Lords Dytmarus", called "the Kuenen", a citizen of Gudensberg, and a plebanus (pastor) Heinricus from Affoldern acquired goods in Deute from the Haina monastery . In 1413 the affiliation to the Hessian office and court of Felsberg is recorded for the first time . The lords of Elben held part of the village as a landgrave fief . When it died out in 1536, Deute returned to the Landgraviate of Hesse as a settled fiefdom . A Salbuch from the year 1579 of the Breitenau monastery shows that the Meierhöfe in Deute belonged to the monastery bailiwick of Breitenau.

The oldest surviving house in the village dates from 1665. From the 18th century, lignite mining was practiced in the Richardsberg colliery near Deute . From 1821, after the administrative reform of the Electorate of Hesse, Deute belonged to the newly formed Melsungen district (today Schwalm-Eder district ) and to the district court in Felsberg .

In 1936 a swimming pool (which was also intended for a fire water pond ) was built on today's B 254 in the direction of Dissen ; it was fed with the water of the stream "Eichtränke".

On December 31, 1971, Deute became a district of the city of Gudensberg in what was then the Fritzlar-Homberg district and no longer belonged to the Melsungen district. In 1974 the former districts of Fritzlar-Homberg, Melsungen and Ziegenhain were combined to form the Schwalm-Eder district.

church

Evangelical Church Deut

In the middle of the village, on a slight hill, is the village church. The church tower was originally a defense tower , built in the Romanesque style in the 11th to 12th centuries and later expanded in the Gothic style . The walls are made of basalt and sandstone , and in the lower part there are well-preserved pitch or water holes next to the loopholes . The wooden, slate-covered belfry used to house two, today three bells, the older of which dates from 1635. Another large bell (age unknown) was cast in the Princely Hessian Gießhaus in Kassel in 1718 after it had burst. The spire with button and weather vane dates from 1786.

After the demolition of the old, north-east facing nave (the approach is still visible on the tower today), a new nave in the classicist style was built from 1827 to 1829 in a south-easterly direction . It is a simple hall building with galleries . The focus is on the altar and pulpit . Next to the pulpit stand was a barred preacher's stand until the renovation in 1964/1965. The present organ was installed in 1912 by the organ builder Möller from Rotenburg ad Fulda; the old one dried up in 1911 due to a long drought.

Until 1881 there was a cemetery around the church . It was leveled after 1920.

societies

Five clubs are active in the village. The sports club TSV Deute offers handball for children, jogging and hobby football for adults and a crawling group. The volunteer fire brigade has an intensive youth work in addition to the operations department. Kulturstall Deute has a theater group that performs classical plays and gives guest performances in the region. There is also the rural women's association and the mixed choir.

leisure offers

In the center of the village you can play with balls on Floriansplatz. A richly equipped playground offers lots of fun for the smaller children. Three combinable hiking trails invite you to experience the hilltop landscape of the Chattengau. Deute is integrated into the cycle path network of the city of Gudensberg. German dishes, especially deliciously prepared schnitzel and steaks, are served in the restaurant "Zum Krug".
