Traditionally, wine has been grown in the North Hesse region for centuries. At the beginning of the 1950s, the building contractor Georg Angersbach cultivated a south-west location north of the 51st parallel on a slope near Felsberg. He grew the Riesling , Ehrenfelser and Müller-Thurgau grape varieties on the terraces . The pioneer of organic viticulture achieved surprising results, as the products of the vineyard were characterized by a tart acidity and fruity freshness.

At the end of the 1970s, the Eltville wine department tried to stop the further cultivation of wine, but failed in court. Since then, Böddiger Berg has been able to call itself "Germany's northernmost vineyard".

The regional success of the wine made it possible for the winemaker to market the wine first in an ostrich tavern and later in his own Fröhlicher Weinberg wine tavern. The wine was pressed and expanded in our own wine cellar. The marketing year began with the manual harvest, and a Federweisser grown in the vineyard was served in the restaurant. Weather-related crop failures in the mid-1970s brought the winery into financial difficulties.

Since 1979 the winery has been used as a therapy facility by drug aid North Hesse eV . This is supported by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs. Viticulture on the Böddiger Berg was initially discontinued.

Viticulture

Viticulture has been continued as ecological viticulture by the Boeddiger-Berg eV Association since 1993 . Mainly the Ehrenfelser grape varieties, but also Riesling, Silvaner and Kerner are cultivated on a subsoil consisting of lava - basalt rock . After the harvest , the wine is transported to the Hessian state winery Kloster Eberbach in Eltville , where it is pressed, expanded and bottled. A wine of the century was harvested in 1999 . 9750 kg of grapes were harvested. With an average of 76 to 78 degrees Öchsle and 10.1 grams of natural acidity per liter, the wine barely missed the rating of cabinet . In 2000 the first wine queen was crowned.

The wine is characterized by its straightforward expression. With a fine interplay of acids, the wine surprises with fruity freshness and a harmoniously balanced ratio of dryness and residual sweetness. The wine is drawn into the bottle of the Rheingau Flute .

Sekt and brandy are also produced from parts of the harvest .
