The vineyards in the Rheingau are made up of around 3,200 hectares of vineyards in the towns and communities:
The Rheingau in the wine law sense is therefore larger than the Rheingau in the geographical sense - the landscape, located on the right bank of the Rhine and on the southern slopes of the Taunus between Lorch and Walluf . Is grown mainly Riesling , and in the red island Assmannshausen Pinot Noir .
As of November 1, 2010, the cultivation area comprises 12 large sites and 119 individual sites. Their names result from the vineyard roll , which is managed by the Darmstadt Regional Council.
The major locations are distributed across the districts of the Rheingau wine-growing communities, which are roughly ordered from west to east:
