The Gehrn is a vineyard in the Rheingau and is located in the middle of the southern slope of the Bubenhäuser Höhe, southwest of Rauenthal , west of Martinsthal , east of Kiedrich and northwest of Eltville am Rhein . It belongs to the Steinmächer area . The Gehren belongs with twelve other locations to the first class vineyards, whose location classification was described in 1867 in the work published by Friedrich Wilhelm Dünkelberg The Nassau viticulture .

Origin of name

The location name is derived from the wedge-shaped shape of the terrain, which is reminiscent of a spearhead ( Ger ).

Soil characteristics

In the Rauenthaler Gehrn you can find medium and deep phyllite soils and small areas of serizite gneiss . The partially existing loess and deep loess loam ensure a good supply of water and nutrients to the vines.

Wine characteristics

In terms of taste, the wines are comparable to those from the neighboring Baiken site and show a pleasant interplay of elegant, mineral acidity and a special aroma; they have a good shelf life.
