Hochheimer Domdechaney
The Hochheimer Domdechaney is a Rheingau vineyard in the area of the city of Hochheim am Main . It is 10.5 hectares in size and belongs to the Daubhaus site in the Rheingau wine-growing region .
Name origin
The Mainz cathedral dean owned a summer residence here, in the so-called Schlösschen next to the parish church of St. Peter and Paul . As early as the 18th century it was mentioned that the cathedral dean had water brought from the nearby Main to their vineyard at this residence in hot summers. The vineyard belonged to the Mainz cathedral chapter and is oriented directly to the south, the Gewann behind the church is south, the Gewann Im Rauchloch west of the church.
Vineyard
The Hochheimer Domdechaney is one of the top locations in the Rheingau, as the high exposure to the sun, even in hot years, is compensated for by the good water and nutrient supply in the heavy, calcareous soils.
