Romualdas Sakalauskas

Romualdas Sakalauskas (born October 14, 1928 in Šiauliai ; † December 20, 2015 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian civil engineer and politician, building minister of Soviet Lithuania .

Life

His father was Mykolas Sakalauskas and his mother Emilija Švedarauskaitė – Sakalauskienė. In 1945 Romualdas Sakalauskas graduated from the Šiauliai grammar school and then studied civil engineering at the construction faculty of the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas . He worked as a works manager and then as a senior engineer in the Šiauliai construction site. He later headed the production department at the Ministry of Construction of the Lithuanian SSR in Vilnius and was Deputy Minister of Construction of Soviet Lithuania . Afterwards, he was in charge of the remains of the building “Vilniaus statyba” as chief engineer. From 1962 to 1979 he was the Soviet-Lithuanian building minister. Four years later he worked as the first deputy to the building minister of the Soviet Union in Moscow .

As a pensioner, he taught for 12 years as a lecturer at the Chair of Building Organization and Technology at the TU Vilnius . He was co-author of the three textbooks on the building site.

Sakalauskas was married. With his wife Sofija he had the son Rimantas Sakalauskas (* 1951), sculptor and winner of the national prize Nacionalinė kultūros ir meno premija , and the daughter Dalia Sakalauskaitė, a doctor.
