Kiedricher Klosterberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Klosterberg is a Rheingau vineyard west of Kiedrich in the Rheingau . It belongs to the major Heiligenstock area .

Name origin

The name of this vineyard goes back to the centuries-old connecting path that led from the Eberbach monastery over the properties of this abbey in Kiedrich to the monastery mill near Eltville , and crossed the hill, which is now called Klosterberg as a vineyard , as Closterweg .

Vineyard

On the south-west-facing and 66 hectare large hillside, there are medium to deep soils interspersed with stony-gritty areas of Devonian rock (colored slate) and predevonian rocks such as phyllites and serite gneiss as well as gravelly loess .

Wine characteristics

The characteristics of the wines growing here are influenced by the south-western orientation of the location, as the vineyard is warmed up by the sun in the early morning hours. The wind conditions optimally ventilate the mountain and protect the grapes from excessive moisture, which is why they can ripen for a long time on the vine. The elegant and finesse-rich wine is characterized by acidic fruit, the stony soils ensure high minerality and complexity.

Ownership

The Kiedricher Klosterberg is owned by the Kiedricher wineries Hans Prinz , Speicher-Schuth , Georg Sohlbach, Steinmacher & Sohn and Robert Weil .
