Wickerer monk won

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wickerer monk Won is a Rheingau vineyard in the district Wicker of the city Florsheim am Main and belongs to Großlage Daubhaus in the wine-growing region Rheingau .

Naming

The location was formerly owned by a monastery and therefore got its name. In 970, the Fulda Abbey and the St. Johann monastery in Magdeburg were already wealthy here, later also the St. Stephen's Foundation and the Mainz Karthauser.

Vineyard

The Mönchsgewann is an 18 hectare south-western hillside above the Wickerbach with a slope of 27 percent. The situation unfolds its full potential especially in dry years, as layers of gravel reliably ensure a plentiful supply of water under a soil consisting mainly of tertiary marl marl with a layer of loess clay.

Wine characteristics

The wine from the Mönchsgewann is strongly characterized by marl in its mineral-earthy nature.
