The Wickerbach is a stream that flows through the eastern Wiesbaden suburbs and flows into the Main from the right between Hochheim am Main and Flörsheim .
River course
The Wickerbach rises northwest of the center of Wiesbaden-Naurod , about 100 meters north of the federal highway 455 . From there it flows through Naurod partly underground in a south-easterly direction. Its tributaries on the way to the Main are the Aubach near Wiesbaden-Auringen , the Medenbach near Wiesbaden-Breckenheim , the Klingenbach near Hofheim-Wallau , which it then flows through and the Nordenstädter Bach near Wiesbaden-Delkenheim , whose town center is located on a hill flows around three sides. This hill accompanies its further course in the east as an ever higher rise in terrain, on which the village of Hochheim-Massenheim lies first, followed by Flörsheim-Wicker as the last and eponymous place above the Wickerbach valley . Part of the Wickerer vineyards lies on the steep south-west slopes between the village and the stream.
The said terrain level forces the Wickerbach from Delkenheim to Wicker and beyond to the Wiesenmühle to a gentle curve to the right until it cuts through this level in the Falkenberg recreational and nature reserve and flows into the Main at the Flörsheim district of Keramag / Falkenberg . From Wicker, the terrain above the floodplain and the valley cut up to the Keramag settlement form an essential part of Flörsheimer Schweiz .
Data
The length of the creek is almost 24 kilometers, its above-ground catchment area 64.5 km².
From the source to the confluence of the Medenbach, the Wickerbach is a body of water III. Order. From there to the confluence with the Main a water body of the 2nd order.
nature and environment
Wickerbachtal nature reserve near Kloppenheim
The nature reserve Wickerbachtal near Kloppenheim is located between Wiesbaden-Kloppenheim and -Medenbach . The 9.7 hectare area was designated on May 16, 1992 in the districts of Kloppenheim and Igstadt . The purpose of the protected area in the natural area of the Vortaunus is to protect a typical meadow valley as a habitat for rare and threatened communities on moist and wet meadows. These include the sedge of the panicle sedge and meadows with marsh marigolds and cabbage thistle . The aim is to reduce grassland use and fallow land .
Linden tree natural monument at the bridge over the Wickerbach in Wallau
The linden tree on the bridge over the Wickerbach in Wallau is protected as a natural monument . The beautiful summer linden tree was planted by the local beekeeping association in 1894. With its magnificent crown it shapes the townscape. See also the list of natural monuments in Hofheim am Taunus .
Wickerbachaue nature reserve from Flörsheim and Hochheim
The section of the valley landscape from Wicker to the Keramag district was designated as a nature and landscape protection area in 1998 under the name Wickerbachaue by Flörsheim and Hochheim . The parts designated as a nature reserve include the sand lawns and Trespen - semi-dry lawns on the Geisberg , the southern part of the Wickerbachaue with its bank breaks and the structurally rich hedgerow and bush vegetation, and parts of the former limestone mine on the Geisenberg . They have a size of about 39 hectares. The parts designated as a landscape protection area essentially comprise the northern part of the Bachaue with its intensively used grassland areas and gardens, and in the south the ornithologically important orchards and the hedges and bushes on the Falkenberg . They have a size of about 59 hectares. The protected areas form a remnant of the extensive, naturally occurring and extensively used green corridors originally in the Main-Taunus foreland.
Regionalparkweg
The Rhine-Main regional park has laid out a regional park path in the Wickerbachaue, implemented a number of projects, and upgraded the valley as a local recreation area . This regional park path leads from Elisabethenstraße , which crosses the stream between Delkenheim and Massenheim and here forms the boundary of the Main-Taunus district , to Keramag.
