history
Franconian graves found in the area of today's Bierhausweg indicate a settlement as early as the 6th and 7th centuries AD. In 927 AD under the reign of the Saxon king Heinrich I , Kloppenheim is mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation. In another document, Count Drutwin bequeathed the Bleidenstadt monastery six marks in “Clopheim” and a forest with adjacent fields. Most likely, Kloppenheim was given the name "Clopheim" in Franconian times. Clopheim means "residence on the rock, on the hill". In the history of the following centuries Kloppenheim had the status of a Königssondergau.
For a long time Kloppenheim's church life was closely connected to the Bleidenstadt monastery. Today's church building dates largely from the years 1706 to 1708.
In 1927 Kloppenheim celebrated its 1000th anniversary. At that time it had 970 inhabitants. In 1928 Kloppenheim was incorporated into Wiesbaden.
On March 22, 1945, six days before the American invasion, three Soviet prisoners of war were shot to cover up the fact that one of the prisoners had been ill-treated. The case caused a stir in Kloppenheim, with the result that today there is a memorial plaque for the three murdered Soviet citizens in the Kloppenheim cemetery.
The apple variety Kloppenheimer Streifling was named after the place and was chosen as the " Hessian fruit variety of the year 2007 ".
