Orchard variety of the year

Various organizations determine a " fruit variety of the year " at regional or state level in order to draw attention to the decline in this form of cultivated plants . Among these organizations are e.g. B. the " Pomologen-Verein e. V. ”, the“ Rhöner Apfelinitiative ”, the“ State Association for Fruit Growing, Garden and Landscape Baden-Württemberg ”, the“ Association of Horticultural Associations Saarland / Palatinate ”.

The “ NABU Federal Expert Committee for Streuobst” (see web links ) provides a continuous overview of all “Fruit of the Year” in Germany .

The selection of the orchard variety of the year is made according to very different criteria: often according to the threat or importance of the variety or the decrease in the respective cultivation volume. The clubs are therefore trying to maintain the variety of fruit types. The cooperation with tree nurseries plays a certain role, because the respective varieties should also be available for replanting and replanting.

The Hessian local variety of the year is annually awarded by the Hessen state group of the “Pomologen-Verein e. V. "named. The aim is to draw attention to old fruit varieties that are worth preserving in Hessen. Corresponding campaigns and public relations work are carried out every year, such as maintenance measures on old trees, rice extraction and delivery to tree nurseries, planting campaigns as well as lectures and exhibitions.
