The Danziger Kantapfel is an autumn apple and has been used for a long time (first mentioned in 1703 on Rügen ) under various names in Holland and Germany: Rabiner, Passamaner, Nikolausapfel, Roode Kant, Calvillartiger winter rose apple, Bentleben rose apple, Lorenzapfel.

The Danzig Kant is included in the rose apple variety group as well as in the calvilla .

Variety characteristics

It is a medium-sized table apple with a shiny red, silky skin covered with a natural layer of wax. The pulp is streaked with green and red veins.

The tree is medium-strong, rich in weight, undemanding and very frost hardy . This old native variety, the branches of which protrude horizontally and thus form a spreading crown, is widespread because it thrives in all locations. It forms large, pink flowers.

The harvest takes place at the end of September and the apple can be used from mid-October to January.

Others

In 2006, the Kantapfel was named Baden-Württemberg's orchard variety of the year .

In 2020, it was named orchard variety of the year in northern Germany.
