Wilhelm Lauche , Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Lauche , (born May 21, 1827 in Gartow ; † September 12, 1883 ) was a German gardener , dendrologist and pomologist .

Horticultural career

Lauche was the son of a palace gardener belonging to the Graflich von Bernstorff administration in Gartow and was familiar with gardening at an early age. He received his horticultural training at Ludwigslust Palace Park and deepened it in various places such as Erfurt, Hanover, Belgium and Potsdam. Lauche headed the Augustin trade and plant nursery at the wildlife park station near Potsdam for five years until he founded his own commercial nursery in the same place in 1859.

Due to his good reputation, in 1869 he was appointed royal gardening inspector to the technical management of the royal tree nursery and gardening school at the wildlife park near Potsdam , which is closely linked to his name. 1877–1879 he was managing director of the German Pomologists Association .

For teaching purposes, he had natural model fruits made for a “Pomological Cabinet”, which can still be seen in the collection of the German Horticultural Museum in Erfurt . Lauche made illustrations of his books for the royal court garden director and head of the royal state tree nursery and royal gardening school at the wildlife park Ferdinand Jühlke .
