Duchess Elsa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Duchess Elsa ( after Duchess Elsa von Württemberg ) is an aromatic table pear . It is medium to large in shape. The basic color is light green to green. Over time, the russeting increases, so that the fruit can turn a rusty brown color. The calyx pit is relatively shallow.

Flowering begins in early April and ends in early May. From mid-September to October, Duchess Elsa is ready to be picked and must be eaten straight away.

The tree's growth is strong at first, but slows down over time. The steep shoots can be corrected by tying down, splaying or pruning. After the second or third year of standing , the tree forms enough fruit wood , but tends to become whorl wood.

The tree does not make any special demands on the location. It can tolerate heights of up to 600 meters above sea level, but does not like the proximity of cold lakes .

It has no particular susceptibility to scab and powdery mildew . Only the pear grate is bothering her.
