List of apple varieties

The Kleine Fleiner is an old apple variety that is mainly native to Baden-Württemberg . In 2010 the apple was named " Orchard variety of the year " by the State Association for Fruit Growing, Gardening and Landscape Baden-Württemberg .

Origin and Distribution

The exact origin of the Little Fleiner has not been conclusively passed down. Adrian Diel suspected that the Kleine Fleiner was the same variety as the Great Winter Fleiner he described, but today pomologists agree that these are only related varieties. The first explicit descriptions of the Little Fleiner come from Johann Ludwig Christ (1794) and Johann Kaspar Schiller (1795). At the end of the 19th century, the variety was considered widespread in what was then Württemberg .

Both the large and the small Fleiner were named after the place Flein near Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg .

description

fruit

The Kleine Fleiner is a typical fruit variety . The small to medium-sized, cone-shaped apple can be harvested from October, and it is ripe for consumption from December to February or March. The peel of the apple is smooth and matt and has only a few lenticels . The color ranges from light green to white yellow to (light) red. The firm, white pulp has a predominantly sweet, juicy taste.

The Kleine Fleiner is mainly used for juice and must , but also for baking and as a compote .

tree

The tree of the Kleiner Fleiner grows relatively strong and fast in the first few years and forms a spherical crown. The tree blossoms early and is sensitive to frost. The shape of the crown changes in the course of the aging of the tree due to mostly high yields from rounded to slightly hanging down.

Synonyms

Common synonyms of the Little Fleiner are Glasfleiner and Fleiner Petit .
