'Juwel aus Kirchwerder' , also 'Juwel von Kirchwerder' ( synonyms : '(Peter) Martens Apple' , 'Martens Gravensteiner' ) is an old apple variety that emerged (at an unknown point in time) as a chance seedling in the Elbmarschen and later after Kirchwerder in the Vierlanden has been named.
Today the variety, especially in the Hamburg area, is still regularly grown as a cultivar for lovers.
description
The apple is medium to large in size and has a regular, rounded, flattened shape. It has a green-yellow basic color, which is covered by an intensely red, partly flat, partly streaky covering color on the sides illuminated by the sun.
The apple has a light white, juicy flesh with a sour, refreshing, aromatic taste.
The apple is ripe for picking from September, the enjoyment begins when it is ripe for picking and lasts until December - making it one of the autumn apples .
