List of apple varieties |
Ruhm aus Kirchwerder (originally Johannsen's Red Autumn Apple ) is an old apple variety that arose as a chance seedling - probably near Kirchwerder in the Vierlanden .
The original name 'Johannsen's Roter Herbstapfel' goes back to the “breeder” or finder of the variety. The variety was cultivated commercially because of its taste quality and high yield - it was given the better-sounding name Ruhm aus Kirchwerder .
Today the variety is only grown as a cultivar for lovers.
description
The apple is medium-sized and has a round, usually regular, flattened shape. It has a green-yellow basic color, which is (mostly) covered by an intense red, streaky covering color.
The apple has a white, juicy flesh with a refreshing, aromatic taste.
The apple is ripe for picking from September, the consumption ripe begins with the picking and lasts until the end of October / beginning of November - which makes it one of the autumn apples .
