List of apple varieties

The 'Dithmarscher Paradiesapfel' , also called 'Weißer Paradiesapfel' , is an old table apple variety . It comes from Dithmarschen and was presented for the first time in 1859. In 2019, the variety became orchard variety of the year in northern Germany .

properties

The fruits are medium-sized and slightly ribbed, with one side often flattened. The skin is yellowish white, often with reddish stripes on the sunny side. The flesh is white and moderately juicy. The taste is described as finely spiced with little acid.

The variety is ready to be picked and enjoyed from September. The apple loses its aroma if it is stored for a long time.

The tree is vigorous and relatively little susceptible to diseases. In addition, the variety gives early yield. Disadvantages for commercial cultivation are the two-year alternation and the tendency towards pre-ripening.

distribution

The 'Dithmarscher Paradiesapfel' used to be common in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg . Therefore there are still many old trees there. Since summers that are too hot affect the apple's aroma, the variety is particularly suitable for areas with a coastal climate or low mountain ranges. Since 1995 it has been planted more frequently in private gardens again.
