Balcony plant of the year
Balcony plant of the year is a name for a balcony plant that has been used since 2001 by the Württemberg Horticultural Association, Badischer Gartenbaubetriebe and the Staatl. Teaching and research institute for horticulture in Heidelberg, has been awarded by the Hessian Horticultural Association since 2004, by the Bavarian Horticultural Association since 2005, by the Rhineland-Palatinate Horticultural Association since 2009 and by the Saxony Horticultural Association since 2014. When choosing a balcony plant, less emphasis is placed on the beauty of the plant, but more on properties such as resistance to diseases and pests. This award is also given to special combinations of varieties and design ideas such as Ex. The Tricolor Nemesia '3Elfen', the Pelargonium x interspezific 'Calliope Rose Splash' with Chamaesyce 'Diamond Frost' or Verbena Trio Mix "clouds Lene".
